About Stittsville
Stittsville real estate agents take a lot of buyers to check out Stittsville real estate listings because – and I’m not exaggerating – there really is something for everyone.
Stittsville has been around for a long time: as such there is a healthy mix of older homes and new builds. This neighbourhood has undergone a lot of recent development while still trying to preserve its small-town feel, making it perfect for homeowners looking for something turnkey, modern, and charming.
There’s also every kind of home available: townhomes, stacked condos, and single family homes.
This is a great selling feature for homeowners who will need to change homes as their family grows or their lifestyle changes, but don’t want to uproot their lives. I can show them a lovely townhome for a start, and 10 years later a great single family home in the same neighbourhood.
If you’re a first-time home buyer with a fairly strict budget, Stittsville isn’t my first choice for you. This market needs some flexibility, and can be a challenge since it’s one of the most popular neighbourhoods in the city of Ottawa.
But if you’ve got that flexibility and are looking for a great place to call home, Stittsville is it. Everyone there loves the proximity to the rest of the city and the suburban structure.
While there are some condos in Wellington Village, the majority of homes are single detached. Price points for properties generally start in the $500,000 range, and go up from there.
This is a great neighbourhood that’s always got something going on. From Island Park Drive to Holland Avenue, I love hanging out there because every time I do, I find something new. Plus, it’s got a lot of the features homeowners want.
Schools in Stittsville
Stittsville is home to multiple schools. While most of them are for elementary-age students, there are 2 secondary schools in the immediate area, and more only a few kilometres away.

Shopping in Stittsville
Stittsville is predominantly suburban, so most amenities are a short drive away: but you can easily find the following amenities:
- The Stittsville Medical centre and several family doctors.
- Dentists.
- Pharmacies.
- Multiple grocery stores and an LCBO.
- Local food shops.
- Coffee shops like Quitters.
- Fitness clubs for everything from yoga to martial arts.
- The Fringewood Community Centre.
It’s easy to run all your day-to-day errands on Stittsville’s main street.
Public Transportation
I’m talking about all the things that make Stittsville great: but there is a downside. You really need a car to live there conveniently. On a good traffic day, it can take approximately 30 minutes to reach downtown Ottawa from downtown Stittsville.
The OC Transpo lines 61 and 62 can get you from Stittsville to downtown, but on average this trip takes about 1 hour. If you’re travelling during rush hour, this can be longer.
If you don’t mind commuting, you could make this work – but if you don’t work close to Stittsville, or don’t want to spend all that time on the road, I wouldn’t recommend looking in this neighbourhood.
Community and Entertainment in Stittsville
Stittsville is a community that is full of local pride, and there are a lot of events that attract people from all over the city. StittsvilleCentral.ca is a great site to see all the latest news and events in the area. If you keep an eye on this website, you won’t miss a thing. There are a few areas that tend to have more events, but residents are never far away, no matter which neighbourhood you find yourself in!
In the meantime, here are some fun things to do all year round.
This establishment opened in 2005, and is a hotspot on the weekends for residents, treasure hunters, and more.
This is a fun AND educational spot in Stittsville. This museum focuses on Ottawa’s oldest military settlement and the life of pioneers in the former Goulbourn Township. It also plays host to a variety of events throughout the year.
If you’ve got kids, they’ll love it here. You get to see a wide variety of animals, enjoy a creative playground, and even visit Bill’s Old Farm museum.
If you’re in the mood to pamper yourself, Mahogany Spa can help. They offer a wide range of services, so there’s literally something for everyone.
Canada’s Cold War Museum is only a short drive away from Stittsville, and is a one-of-a-kind experience. They’re also jumping on the trend of escape rooms, creating a truly unique experience.
Stittsville is incredibly close to the Canadian Tire Centre, where the Ottawa Senators play and most concerts are held.
Dining Out in Wellington Village
Stittsville Main Street and surrounding area is full of restaurants I dare you not to love. If you’ve got friends over, you’re guaranteed to find something they’ll like.
The following is just a taste of what’s available!
Self-described as a crazy little Italian eatery, the menu is stuffed full of classic dishes. While the space is small, it’s atmospheric, warm and friendly – perfect for everything from a date to friends getting together.
I love Chesterfield’s. It is the place to go for a comfy brunch: but I will warn you that they don’t take reservations on weekends, so be prepared to go early or wait in a little bit of a line.
But I promise, it’s worth it: and the 450+ people who have left Google reviews agree with me!
This family-run Italian eatery has been in business since 1993, and specializes in authentic cuisine, including homemade pasta and fresh veal. The setting is described as upscale casual and the price point is mid-range, so it’s a good choice for a variety of events.
This is a newer restaurant, but it took Ottawa by storm! Named to Canada’s hottest new restaurants list in 2015, this establishment specializes in dishes with Canadian roots and Asian and European influences. The dishes are designed to be shared, perfect for people who always want to try a little of everything!
Since 1988, The Glen has been delighting residents with their traditional fare – they’re most famous for Uncle John’s famous fish and chips! Their menu features haggis, steak and ale pie, and other tasty dishes from across the ocean. Out of this establishment’s many reviews, a theme emerges: courteous staff, friendly atmosphere, and amazing fish and chips.
This restaurant opened in 2017, but already people are in love. The food is rustic and expertly presented. The space and the food were created to be approachable and fun: a place where locals could always get a good meal.
This Asian cuisine bistro is contemporary in food and style, and caters to a wide variety of palates and diets. The restaurant is small – only 36 seats – but boosts a robust Thai, Chinese and sushi menu. Everything is prepared fresh and authentically. If you don’t feel like dining in, they also offer takeout!
Parks in Stittsville
While homes and schools are in plentiful supply, natural habitats are not as common as community development has progressed. Luckily, a Sustainable Stittsville initiative by environmental planners aims to increase green space that will be good for the local habitat and for the people who live there.
That doesn’t mean that it’s a concrete jungle or nothing but a suburb: there are great parks and camping sites to enjoy that are child and pet-friendly. It gives the community tons of recreational opportunities for the population- for everyone from young kids to the active retiree to explore.
