Shopping in Avalon
While a predominately suburban area, there are some shopping destinations near Avalon that offer both variety and convenience.
Located on Tenth Line Road, the Avalon Centre is anchored by multiple food establishments, including a Farm Boy and the Barley Mow Gastropub. This is a great shopping centre to complete some quick after-work errands, or grab that missing ingredient on a weekend.
Riocan Orléans is located at the intersection of Innes and Tenth Line road, and is the location for many of your big box stores, including Jysk and Staples. Riocan has plenty of parking, and is completely accessible to all.
Looking for something a little more unique? Silhouette Asia, located on Southfield Way, is a trendy boutique accessories store that carries a wide variety of products from India. This includes scarves, jewelry, handbags and leather goods.
Only a 15 minute drive away from Avalon, Place D’Orléans is one of the largest shopping malls in Ottawa, with over 170 stores. It has the mall staples, like David’s Tea and American Eagle, along with some unique to us stores you’ll love to browse around in.
No neighbourhood would be complete without access to good food. Besides the Farm Boy, there is also the Orléans Sobeys and a Superstore in close proximity to the subdivisions.
Public Transportation
Recently OC transpo bus routes were expanded into Ottawa’s East End, and the Light Rail Transit system will make Orléans even more accessible. This has made Avalon an exciting possibility for homeowners.
Based on current data from Google Maps, a trip from Avalon to the Byward Market takes approximately 1 hour.
It is certainly not impossible to use public transportation regularly in Avalon, but a car can make getting around easier.

While the name has changed, the grand exterior and the fantastic film experience hasn’t. Whether you want to catch the latest billion-dollar blockbuster, or Meryl Streep doing another amazing job, you can find it at Scotiabank Theatres.
Every wanted to touch the clouds? What about walk among the stars? You can at the Canadian Aviation and Space Museum.

This museum has fantastic interactive displays and games to get the kids involved, and summer camps where they can learn even more.

No neighbourhood would be complete without a few local restaurants that take the cake.
Occo Kitchen is a restaurant/catering company that focuses on using only the best local ingredients in their dishes. Everything is made fresh daily – even their ketchup!
The chic, trendy interior makes Occo Kitchen an excellent place to bring friends – and the on-tap craft brews don’t hurt either. Food ranges from apps and light plates to hearty meals you won’t want to share.
If you want tasty food, but your own home is calling you, Occo Kitchen has a takeout location o St. Joseph. It features a sampling of their full service menu, and makes grabbing dinner even more convenient.
St. Martha’s motto is good food served well. And they’re not lying. They focus on home-cooked comfort food that will instantly raise your spirits, with a regional French touch. Their menu is large, and features kid-friendly selections. Soft lighting and a mix of bar and table seating help make this a restaurant for all people and palettes.
One of the great things about living in Avalon, Orléans is the international flavours you can find. Hai Noi Pho has been serving the area for over 10 years, serving up authentic Vietnamese cuisine.

While it’s only been open since 2017, Persis is fast becoming a neighbourhood-favourite.
