About Overbrook/Castle Heights

The Overbrook and Castle Heights community is your destination for fun and activities. It is a neighbourhood in transition being revitalized through development attracting business, transit and government and private investment.  This urban neighbourhood gives you easy access to everything from parks, sports facilities, bike paths, restaurants, and all downtown Ottawa has to offer. 

Off of Highway 417 and the Rideau River, Overbrook and Castle Heights give variety for anyone looking to move to Ottawa. Whether you’re single, newly-weds, a family, or retired, there’s something for everyone. 

Overbrook and Castle Heights have a rich history as a neighbourhood. The oldest home was built back in 1906. Most of the houses are detached singles created from 1940 to 1960. The population in Overbrook is 9,215 (2016). 

In 2019, the average price for a home in the Overbrook area is around $471,000, and the average price for a home in the Castle Heights area is around $450,000. This neighbourhood is one of the few remaining neighbourhoods close to downtown Ottawa and the Ottawa River offering housing prices inline with the average house price across Ottawa.

Parks in Overbrook/Castle Heights

Gil-O-Julien Park

  • This park is every sports fans dream. With a football field, baseball diamond and basketball court, this park always has something going on. If you’re not too big into sports, don’t worry. There’s a path for walks with you or your dog with an open field and trees.

Riverain Park

  • A beautiful widespread park. Right beside the Rideau River, you and your loved ones can enjoy the beautiful scenery (lots of Canadian Geese). Great paths for walks or jogs. For sports lovers, there are two baseball diamonds and tennis courts to let out some energy. The Rideau Sports Centre is right beside it too. There are a play structure and swings for kids to go wild.

St. Paul’s Park

  • A summertime park for kids to enjoy during their summer vacation. A seasonal pool for kids to cool off alongside a play structure, swings and gazebo.

Lawson Park

  • A quiet park within the Overbrook neighbourhood. Attached to the Queen Mary School, there’s room for baseball and basketball. There’s also a small water park for hot summer days. There’s also an open field and a small bike path.

Presland Park

  • This is a smaller park for kids to play. There’s a small play structure, including swings and a separate slide. Beyond that, there’s an open field to let your dog play or conduct your own workout session.

Overbrook Park

  • Right outside the Overbrook Community Centre, there’s an open park for soccer players and dog walkers. There’s an open soccer field with bright green grass. Also, there are two basketball courts which are transformed into a hockey rink in the winter.

Public Transportation

Overbrook and Castle Heights are in proximity to the St-Laurent O-Train bus stop, which gives all residents quick access to the fun and excitement downtown Ottawa has to offer. You can also take the 12, 14 and 18 to travel to downtown Ottawa.

The Overbrook Community Association is a hardworking non-profit volunteer organization that’s sole purpose is to improve the lives of the Overbrook & Castle Heights community. With how diverse these neighbourhoods are, this organization works to accommodate everyone by moulding Overbrook and Castle Heights into a safe and enjoyable community.

Looking for a place to get active? Rideau Sports Center is the perfect location to have fun and stay fit. This sport and wellness facility provides a wide range of activities from basketball, swimming, tennis, ball hockey, weight lifting and yoga. Alongside it are great bike paths along the river. There’s also some nice apple orchards near by.
