Paul Rushforth Charity Golf Tournament 2016 Earns Record Donations

Paul Rushforth Charity Golf Tournament 2016 LogoThe Paul Rushforth team is thrilled to announce that our 2016 charity golf tournament raised a record amount for our charities. There are still a few donations coming in, but our generous sponsors and golfers raised over $36,000 – surpassing our goal by more than $5,000 !

The proceeds will go to benefit two very important causes in our community:

“We’re very grateful to Paul and his team,” said Cindy MacKay of the Orléans-Cumberland Community Resource Centre. “They make it possible for us to keep helping those who come to us for assistance get healthy food and improve their futures.”

The tournament was fully sold out weeks before the big day. If you were unable to attend or sponsor this year, we encourage you to make a donation directly to these very worthy causes on their websites.

We’ll definitely be having another golf tournament next year, so check the tournament website February 1, 2017 to sponsor or register.

Highlights from the Tournament

Paul Rushforth Cutout 1On Friday July 8, golfers from all over the region gathered at the Greyhawk Golf Course. While the weather initially didn’t look too promising, nothing could stop our amazing supporters and volunteers. They were rewarded with a day full of fresh air, fun, great food, and plenty of prizes and surprises.

Winning Team

This year’s best scoring team was from Closer Look Home Inspections, featuring Marc Ethier, Shaun Van Allen of Ottawa Senators fame, and TSN 1200’s Ian Mendes and Shawn Simpson.

Paul Was Everywhere…

Paul Rushforth Cutout 2

Cutout photos of Paul were literally everywhere, and golfers had a great time posing with the pictures around the course. One photo of Paul even became part of special prize shot. The photos have been a running gag since 2013, with K6 media outdoing themselves every year with the photo comedy.

Dinner, Prizes, and Auctions

Charity Golf Tournament Dinner

After a fun filled day of golf everyone was ready to relax and enjoy dinner and entertainment in the clubhouse. Auctioneer Liam McGuire demonstrated his incredible sports trivia knowledge with his comments on the memorabilia available in the auctions. Next year we hope to get to our “Stump Liam” contest to raise even more for our charities.

A Special Visit by Jonathan Pitre

Jonathan PitreJonathan is an inspiring and courageous young man. Known as a “butterfly child”, Jonathan suffers from Epidermolysis Bullosa, a painful and debilitating condition that causes his skin to blister and tear when touched. He and his mom, Tina Boileau, have been trying to fundraise for DEBRA so that sufferers can get help and that better treatments can be developed (there is currently no cure).

Our golfers were incredibly moved by his talk, and helped make sure that Jonathan’s DEBRA fundraiser golf tournament was booked to capacity.

Thanks to All Who Helped Make 2016 a Huge Success

Charity Golf Tournament Sponsors

We’d like to say a special thank you to everyone who volunteered, attended, and donated. We’d also like to give a special shout out to our title sponsor Sobey’s, GGFL and First Avenue Raymond James for sponsoring the Million Dollar Shootout, and all of the wonderful sponsors who help make this tournament possible.

We’re looking forward to seeing you on the green next year!
